Smart Key Not Found / Smart Key Not Recognised

A common occurrence on JLR vehicles is the Smart Key Not Found or Smart Key Not Recognised Warning in the instrument cluster. This can be due to several reasons some easier to rectify than others. Below is a short of list of the most common issues and how to solve them.

Most Commonly

A Flat Battery inside the keyfob itself will give this warning, this is a 5 minute fix and can be done by the owner. There a plenty of videos online all you need is a new CR2032 battery.

The second most common reason is not so easily fixed without a trip to our workshop.

If you get the Smart Key Not Found warning after you have disconnected or replaced the main vehicle battery, the car may have lost its memory of the keys all together. This is due to a software problem in the main vehicle BCM (Body Control Module).

The module can be reprogrammed and keys paired back to the vehicle at our workshop.
